Although many reports state that the 4.3 V6 used in the new 2010 model accelerates sluggishly, towing capacity has increased slightly to an impressive 9100 lbs. While for nearly $1000 more, a prospective customer can choose the Vortec 4.8L SFI 4.8L V8, fuel economy is at an average loss of 1 MPG city but remains the same for highway driving when compared to the baseline V6 configuration with the 4 wheel drive option. The towing capacity, unfortunately, with respect to the 4.8L SFI 4.8L V8, is considerably less than the 4.3 V6. The 4-wheel drive 4.3 V6 option for the Chevrolet Silverado utilizes a manual shift on the fly transfer case while the other optional engine configurations use the new Autotrac active transfer case.
This year's 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD comes with two different engine options, both sturdy and heavy to horsepower. Connoisseurs of last year's model will notice an improvement in the standard options but the diesel engine upgrade option remains the same.
